Diving Phuket and Similan

Phuket surrounded by the Andaman Sea offers lots of great diving and snorkeling opportunities.
The warm waters of the Andaman Sea are teeming with sea life. You will see colourful corals and plenty of tropical fish, sharks, rays, eels and turtles or the rarely spotted whale shark and mata rays. Water visibility is usually excellent, often exceeding 20-30 meters. The best time to dive is from November to May with water temperature of 30 C. One Day or overnight trips to the National Park of Similan and Surin Islands are possible only at this time. During the monsoon summer season from June to October visibility is reduced and some dive sights, such as the Similans, will be out of reach because of rough sea and strong winds.

Phuket is ideal for dive beginners to start with an Introduction course (DSD) or to full fill a diving course such as the PADI Open Water. For casual divers there are plenty of day trips to great dive sites. For the serious diver there are enough dives sites such as the following to fill an entire holiday.

The two most widely recognised dive associations are PADI, CMAS and SSI.
